One of the UK’s largest crematorium groups, which has its headquarters just outside Bristol, has given a £10,000 gift to Southmead Hospital Charity.

The money will be used by the palliative and end-of-life care team at the hospital to help provide valuable support to patients and their families.

Westerleigh Group is one of the UK’s largest owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 36 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Southmead Hospital Charity was nominated by Jana Smidkova, Head of Marketing at Westerleigh Group, who said: “The grief of losing a loved one is one of the hardest things to come to terms with in anyone’s lifetime.

“We wanted our donation to Southmead Hospital Charity to support those approaching the end of their lives, as well as their grieving families. We understand how important it is for them to make special memories of their final moments together and, where possible, give them some level of comfort during such difficult time.”

Adrian Brown, Community & Events Manager at Southmead Hospital Charity said: “It’s widely known that hospital is where people come to get better. But it’s also about providing a dignified, comfortable end of life experience, and supporting families through their bereavement and beyond. It’s something we’re so proud to support, and we couldn’t do it without the generosity of incredible donors like Westerleigh Group.

“Their support means so much to us, to our staff and most importantly, to the patients and their families who will hugely benefit from this generous donation.”

Jana added: “We are pleased that our donation to Southmead Hospital will help make a positive difference to those who are experiencing loss of a loved one and support the amazing NHS staff in the care they selflessly give to these families. It’s an honour to be able to support them.”
