Woollensbrook Crematorium honours Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Woollensbrook Cemetery & Crematorium has honoured the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by planting a tree in its grounds in tribute to the monarch.

A plaque on the tree will be unveiled on Wednesday 25th May by Karen Trew – Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire.

The tree has already been planted near the front of the crematorium’s grounds and the visit of Karen Trew – one of the Queen’s official representatives in the region – will formally unveil the plaque in honour of the first British Monarch to reign for 70 years.

One of the many initiatives launched to mark the monarch’s milestone is the Queen’s Green Canopy, a nationwide tree-planting project.

During her reign, the Queen has planted more than 1,500 trees herself, all over the world, and has spoken alongside Sir David Attenborough about the importance of trees to the future of the planet.

Site Manager Martin Langdon said: “We wanted to do something to recognise and remember 70 years of service from Her Majesty and felt that planting a tree under the Queen’s Green Canopy project would be an appropriate way to pay tribute and create a memorial that, like the Queen herself, will stand proud for many, many years.

“We know the Queen feels trees are extremely important, so it seemed very apt for us to plant one in honour of her.

“The tree was recently planted and its leaves have now started appearing, which we weren’t expecting yet, so it is a lovely surprise.

“The leaves are currently red but they will deepen to a lovely purple.”
