Open day at Forest of Dean Crematorium

Forest of Dean Crematorium is inviting people to shelter from the sun this Saturday by travelling to the heart of the forest for a community open day at the site.

The event runs between 10am and 1.30pm on Saturday (13th August).

Visitors will be able to take a tour of the site and its fantastic facilities, including the chapel and crematory room, meet the staff and find out more about the exceptional care they provide.

Forest of Dean Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Nestling in the heart of the forest, providing a unique, naturally picturesque setting for funerals for the surrounding communities of Chepstow, Monmouth, Lydney and Ross-on-Wye.

Visitors to the open day will also be able to visit the site’s Covid-19 Memorial, and also see the Chinese Dogwood tree which was planted in the Garden of Remembrance earlier this year to honour the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Forest of Dean Crematorium assistant site manager Aaron Carter said: “Local funeral directors, celebrants, florists and a stonemason will also be attending, talking about their services and answering people’s questions.

“We feel privileged to be able to provide our services in such a special, natural, place, and very much look forward to welcoming local people here on Saturday to show them around.

“People will also be able to spend time to reflect and contemplate in our peaceful, secluded and tranquil grounds.

“Visitors will also be able to see our naturally elegant, spacious chapel, which was designed to blend into the local environment and was built with local timber and stone.”

Light refreshments will also be available at the community open day, which is free to attend, and no booking is required.
