Light up the night at Herne Bay Crematorium
Herne Bay Crematorium is inviting local people to get 2025 under way by ‘lighting up the night’ in memory of their loved ones.
The crematorium is hosting a community candlelit event on Saturday 4 January 2025 between 5pm and 7pm.
It’s free to attend but visitors will be invited to make donations in aid of the Cruse Bereavement Support charity.
Cruse ‘Light up the Night’ events have been taking place since 2019, when the first one was held in Bristol and saw thousands of candles being lit in memory of loved ones, which lit up the graveyard of a church in the city.
The events now take place at churches, crematoria and some other venues all over the country.
Herne Bay Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners and operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 41 sites across England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.
Manager Damien Corlett-Oates said: “The idea behind Light up the Night was to give friends and family an opportunity for shared remembrance of loved ones in places of unique calm, peace, hope and community.
“As the dark winter night is filled with candlelight, it can be a truly moving experience, creating a comforting atmosphere of serenity.
“Our event is open to anyone to drop by and walk within our grounds, light a candle and contemplate family and friends, past and present.
“It is free, but we would ask those who attend to consider making a donation to Cruse Bereavement Support, which helps those struggling to come to terms with grief to get the assistance and advice they need.”
