Sedgemoor crematorium offers state-of-the-art funerals

Sedgemoor Crematorium is the latest Westerleigh Group site to offer bereaved families the opportunity to personalise their loved one’s service to an unprecedented level.

One of only five crematoria in the UK – and worldwide – the site uses state-of-the-art audio-visual technology to make final farewells more uniquely personal than ever before.

A range of beautifully curated themes can now be projected across the entire front wall of the chapel, transforming it into a striking visual canvas. These themes are enhanced by harmoniously coordinated lighting and synchronised soundscapes, creating an innovative and immersive experience that truly reflects and celebrates the life being remembered.

The chosen theme sets the tone even before mourners enter the chapel through external welcome screens that can display an image of the person being remembered or details of the service.

Once inside, the selected canvas theme continues throughout the service, providing a consistent and meaningful backdrop to the farewell.

Sedgemoor Crematorium currently offers 18 inclusive themes and two personalised themes.

The inclusive themes, available at no extra cost, offer options such as lavender, country park, seasons, waterfall, nebula or Glastonbury Tor.

In recognition of football being a lifetime passion for many, personalised themes featuring local or national clubs take the canvas to the next level. Here, the canvas becomes the football team’s stadium and also displays the club’s logo.

The loved one’s name then dynamically moves across the stadium, accompanied by harmonious lighting. If desired, even the club’s anthem can be played during the service.

Westerleigh Group launched the world’s first SuperVenue at its crematorium in Gedling, Nottinghamshire, in November 2024, with Sedgemoor now becoming the fifth site to have the state-of-the-art technology installed.

The group plans to introduce the technology to more of its crematoria and cemetery locations in the future.

The innovative experience is the result of a partnership between Westerleigh Group and the UK’s leading audio-visual provider to the bereavement industry, Obitus.

Sedgemoor Crematorium Manager Laura Williams said: “We’re proud to be one of the first crematoria in the world to offer our local communities an opportunity to curate a unique canvas theme for their loved one’s service.

“The bereaved will be able to come here and feel that the whole crematorium has been set up especially for them, and will leave thinking that the person being remembered was given a send-off they would have been proud of.

“Whether it’s a waterfall or a seasonal background, or even a football stadium, there is a wide range of themes and choices available, with many options to tailor the displays to be specifically relevant to the individual being honoured.

“It really does have the ‘wow’ factor and takes a funeral – and a celebration of life – to a whole new level, giving those left behind something to remember in a meaningful, positive way.”
