Crematorium Assistant – Admin/Service

Bromsgrove

Salary: £22,000

Full time - 40 Hours per week

When friends and family say a final goodbye to a loved one at the crematorium, it can be one of the very hardest parts of a funeral. That’s why it’s so important to deliver a respectful, serene and empathic experience. Which is exactly what our client, Westerleigh, ensures happens.

The 40,000 cremations and burials they deliver each year help to shape a truly fitting end to the funeral service. Westerleigh sees it as an honour and a privilege to be charged with that role and, as a result, it’s made them the largest independent operator of their kind in the UK, employing 300 people across 34 sites.

Joining us as a Crematorium Assistant here at Westerleigh is an opportunity to be a part of something truly meaningful and significant.

The challenge

Being part of our Crematorium Team means getting involved at every stage of the cremation and burial process, so the challenge can be varied. Your main focus will be on ensuring our services runs smoothly – both from an administrative perspective in the office, and when you greet families and funeral directors arriving at the chapel. Making sure that all our clients are well taken care of, your working day could send you in a number of different directions. One minute you might be taking a booking. The next you might be updating our Epitaph computer system or dealing with paperwork. Then you may be at the chapel ensuring the ceremony and its music program are running as planned.

And, from time to time, you may need to take on cremation duties (full training is given). Whether you’re working in a public-facing, team-based or individual capacity, you’ll always bring a special brand of dignity to every bit of what you do. That’s why people choose Westerleigh.

Wherever the day takes you, your attention to detail will make sure we get it right – which is so important to what we do. If you can do that, you’ll be part of a team with the kind of collective ‘family’ spirit you won’t find everywhere. And you’ll be on to a great career with the biggest independent UK company in the business.

The person

An empathic and caring person, who isn't fazed by day-to-day duties at a crematorium, you know just what to say to help families get through what can be a traumatic experience. Your steadfast approach to any issues that may arise will see you deal with them calmly and swiftly – often before the family even see it as a problem. Your experience might lean more towards administrative and customer-facing roles – you might even have been an usher in a chapel before. But that doesn’t mean you’re not interested in learning about grounds keeping or cremation. The fact that you’re excited to learn new skills and play a role in all team activities is what makes you perfect for a role like this.

As long as you have basic computer skills, Maths and English GCSEs and you understand the importance of great communication, we can show you the rest. What’s most important is your drive to be an indispensable member of a team that delivers a great, dignified service to all its users. And that’s why you’ll love it here. Because, when you share your skills and pull together with your colleagues, you’ll see first-hand how much people appreciate it. It’s something you take great pride in. And so you should. It’ll put you on the path to a great career at Westerleigh.
