Building Surveyor

Hybrid working – Work from home with travel required throughout the UK for projects when required

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

8.30am – 5pm Monday – Friday. 40 Hours per week

This role offers the option of hybrid working – working from home with time at sites when required. Our Head Office is near to Bristol and sites are throughout across the UK.

The role

We have big ambitions; to significantly grow the number of crematoria sites we operate and as importantly, further invest in our existing sites.  Our Property team is responsible for delivering this ambition – dealing with all aspects relating to the development of new crematoria and the management/improvement of the existing operational estate.

The role is to manage in conjunction with the Head of Estates & Facilities and the wider in-house property team, the delivery of small civils work packages and maintenance/improvement capex projects on existing sites.  It is anticipated that most capex projects relating to the existing estate will be undertaken ‘in house’ using limited or possibly no external professional team.  Working in conjunction with the in-house property and operational teams, the Building Surveyor /Project Manager will undertake the following aspects: 

  • Agreeing and preparing project brief & liaison with the wider in-house team to agree design, specification & methodology for the project.
  • Management of project delivery including arranging, chairing & minuting project meetings.
  • Undertaking initial feasibility studies and preparing cost advise
  • Preparing outline design information & assisting in the submission of applications, securing/discharging conditions for relevant Consents
  • Acting as client under CDM Regulations and acting as principal designer under CDM Regulations
  • Preparation of detailed design and specification information
  • Preparation of tender documents & management of tender process.
  • Preparation of Building Contract Documents & appointment of the contractor
  • Acting as client & /or contract administrator under the Building Contract
  • Monitoring of the contractors’ progress of the works and quality without impacting operations
  • Monitoring total project expenditure and preparing regular project cost reports. 

Other

  • Provision of general cost, construction, project procurement & associated technical advice to the Head of Estates & Facilities and/or CPO
  • Preparation of advice & reports, including condition surveys, PPM schedules, reinstatement cost assessments for insurance purposes, capital allowance claims etc.

About you

  • Experienced Building Surveyor with experience of occupied property repair/refurbishment and civil engineering works
  • Experience of drawing up specifications
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCAD Lite
  • Experience of tendering works
  • Contracts Admin experience (JCT Contracts)
  • Working knowledge of NBS specification prelims
  • Relevant experience & track record of project delivery
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at any one time
  • Desirable – Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS / FRICS) or Chartered Building (CIOB),
  • Desirable – NEBOSH / IOSH Health and safety qualification  
  • Full driving licence (and access to car with business insurance) – role involves travel throughout the UK for projects when required)
