Developers Submit Plans To Build New Vale Crematorium

AN AMBITIOUS proposal to build a crematorium in Fladbury to serve Pershore and the Vale of Evesham has been submitted to Wychavon District Council.

Following positive support from the Vale community, Westerleigh Group, one of the country’s leading developers of crematoria, have submitted an application to the planning authority for a new ‘Vale of Evesham’ crematorium, which, if approved, could open as early as autumn 2018.

It would stage up to 1,000 funerals per year when fully up and running, averaging around four per day, giving Vale residents more local choice.

Westerleigh Group recently hosted a series of exhibitions in Pershore, Evesham and Fladbury for the proposed site at Fladbury Cross on the A44, to ease pressures on crematoria in Worcester and Redditch. The lack of capacity at the these crematoria often causes delays of three weeks in being able to book a time for a funeral, and further distress is suffered by families pressurised into limiting the length of funeral services to make way for other funeral parties.

Steve Bucknell, development director at the Westerleigh Group, said: “The new crematorium will provide a more accessible funeral service option for families throughout the Vale of Evesham and Pershore areas.

“There will also be much lower waiting times for funerals, particularly during the winter months when the death rate can be 40 per cent higher.”
