Open day at Cam Valley Crematorium

by Crematorium Editor Westerleigh News

Cam Valley Crematorium is issuing an open invitation to people in its surrounding communities to visit its picturesque, peaceful site.

The crematorium is hosting a community open day on Saturday 17 September between 10am and 2pm.

Local people will have the chance to tour the facilities and take a walk in the landscaped grounds as well as to meet the staff and find out more about the work they do and care they provide.

Tea, coffee, homemade cake and other refreshments will be available on the day in exchange for voluntary donations, with all proceeds being donated to the Therapy Dogs Nationwide charity.

Cam Valley Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, the UK’s largest independent owner and operator of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites in England, Scotland, and Wales, all set within beautifully landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Cam Valley Crematorium opened in 2018 to serve families in Essex, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire. On the day, 4 doves will be released at 12 noon, each one to symbolise a year since the site’s opening and the support it has given to its communities in that year.

Those with an interest in transport, will be able to see a selection of unusual funeral vehicles, including a Land Rover and an electric hearse.

Site Manager Sam Cunningham said: “We are located against an ancient hillside, with long views of the surrounding scenery, providing a place of peace and seclusion.

“We are very proud of our facilities here, which have been especially designed to blend into the countryside setting.

“Death is a subject no one wants to think about as losing a loved one comes with grief and sadness. But we would like our community to know about the work we do and how we can help them to remember a loved one in a uniquely personal and dignified way.

“We are proud of the exceptional care and support we provide and would like to meet local families and let them tour our chapel and grounds.”

Visitors will be able to visit the modern multi-faith chapel, which is fitted with a Viscount organ and has picture windows along both sides which perfectly frame the local landscape.

Finished in natural stone and oak, the chapel has a light and spacious feel while also featuring modern fixtures such as a state-of-the-art media centre, which enables Cam Valley Crematorium to offer live webcasts, visual tributes and an almost unlimited media library.

Sam added: “The invitation to attend our open day is extended to everyone in our community.  We look forward to meeting as many people as possible, taking the opportunity to talk about our care, our facilities and our excellent team.

“Visitors are also welcome to visit with their dogs and explore public walkways crossing our grounds. All we ask is that they politely keep their dogs on a leash whilst on our grounds and stay respectful of those visiting their loved ones resting in our Garden of Remembrance.”
