Forest Park Crematorium plants tree in honour of King’s Coronation

Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium has planted a tree in its grounds to honour the forthcoming Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III.

It follows the planting of a tree last year at the site in honour of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, which was added to the Queen’s Green Canopy Map after her passing.

Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium is part of Westerleigh Group, one of the UK’s largest independent owners-operators of crematoria and cemeteries, with 37 sites across England, Scotland and Wales, all set within beautifully-landscaped gardens of remembrance which provide pleasant, peaceful places for people to visit and reflect.

Site Manager Daren Trinder said: “I spoke with my grounds team and we decided to plant a Sorbus Aucuparia Sheerwater seedling tree as a mark of respect to celebrate the King’s Coronation on 6 May.

“The tree is a well-known mountain ash that has been planted in many urban environments.

“Fluffy white corymbs of flowers appear in April and May that are popular with bees.

“Mid-to-dark green pinnate foliage turns vibrant shades or orange and red in the autumn which complements the reddish-orange berries that hang in heavy clusters and which are a treat for the birds.

“It’s a very versatile tree that is popular with wildlife and, we hope, will be equally popular with all visitors to our grounds.

“In honour of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, we planted an Amelanchier (Lamarckii) Snowy Mespilus, which we chose because it looks interesting throughout different seasons, including winter months when most trees lose leaves and look bare.

“Since her passing, the tree took on even more symbolic significance, and is a fitting memorial to Her Majesty.

“We said then that we planned to plant another tree in honour of His Majesty the King’s forthcoming Coronation, and it’s now in place, complete with a commemorative plaque.”

Forest Park Cemetery & Crematorium is run by Westerleigh Group on behalf of Redbridge London Borough Council.

Redbridge Cabinet Member for Planning & Planning Enforcement, Cllr Sheila Bain said: “As our communities across the borough look forward to celebrating the King’s Coronation, we are proud to have this tree in Forest Park Crematorium in honour of this historic occasion.”
